#5) Stop Using Water Bottles!: Thursday August 27, 2009

Picture
Think about all the water bottles you have used in your life. A lot, right? Even if you ALWAYS recycle, producing all those water bottles is a waste of energy and time, and is harmful for the environment. Instead of having one or two bottles a day, use ONE, yes one, refillable stainless steel water bottle. You can keep refilling it, and it keeps the liquid cooler for a longer time! Refilling normal plastic water bottles has actually been proven to be unhealthy for you. So make the switch!

#3) Stressed Out? Learn How To Manage Your Stress!: Tuesday August 25, 2009

Picture
Managing stress is about taking charge of your life (your thoughts, emotions, schedule, the way you deal with problems, etc.). Everyone wants a balanced life, with time for work, people you care about, relaxation, and fun. You need to realize that you are in control of your life. Here's how to minimize your stress . . .

  1. Identify what is causing you stress. Are you involved with way too many things? Do you procrastinate? Find out what your issue is.
  2. Try to eliminate the stress by taking charge and doing the work that needs to be done. For example, complete an assignment in an hour at your dest, rather than three hours in front of the television. Maybe you're involved with a sport and you feel constant pressure to perform well, or like your the center of attention. If so, try not to care as much. Go easier at practice, take deep breaths, and try to stay calm and have fun. Isn't that why you joined whatever you joined? Whenever you feel stress, try to look towards the good side of what you are doing, rather than thinking, "Oh, I hate this, Ughh, I can't take this."
  3. Start a stress journal. Everyday write what caused your stress for the day, how you felt, what you did to try to make yourself feel better, and anything else you feel is helpful.
  4. Make sure you give yourself atleast an hour a day for just "You Time." Watch your favorite show, take a bath, float in the pool, whatever! You deserve some time for yourself!

Some Healthy Ways To Relax:

  • Go outside and take a walk
  • Talk to a friend
  • Take a bath
  • Write in a journal
  • Drink a cup of tea
  • Get a massage
  • Listen to music
  • Watch a funny TV show
  • Exercise

Some Unhealthy Ways To Relax (AVOID THESE!):

  • Smoking
  • Drinking
  • Overeating/undereating
  • Too much TV/Computer
  • Sleeping too much
  • Procrastinating
  • Acting angry towards others

#2) Trying To End Your Soda Addiction?: Monday August 24, 2009

Picture
Most soda drinkers know that soda is both addiciting and unhealthy. Whether it's diet soda or regular soda, it's still not healthy to drink. Regular soda is packed with sugar and calories which leads to weight gain, and diet soda contains "fake sugar" which could lead to cancer. An easy way to kick your addiction has been discovered! Whenever you want a soda, get a big glass of ice water and a sugar free popsicle (some have as low as 15 calories!) instead. The popsicle will give you the flavor you crave and the water will end your thirst. So give it a try!
